COVID-19 Restaurant Closures

March 30, 2020

Last night, we came to a tough decision. The majority of Café Yumm! restaurants are now closed until further notice in order to protect our team members and guests during the rapid spread of COVID-19.

We will assess that decision and our operations week by week, and will reopen as soon as possible. We are working with lenders, government agencies, and employment services to do everything possible in support of our team members' health and financial wellbeing.

Most of our employees were furloughed after close of business on March 29, meaning we want them to come back to work for us. Furloughed employees may qualify for enhanced unemployment services under the National Coronavirus Bill passed into law on March 27. We are also continuing to cover all employer-paid benefits for our team members.

We have reinvented our way of doing business on a daily basis over the past two weeks, and we tried everything possible to maintain physical distance between delivery drivers, suppliers, and guests. However, it is not possible to run a kitchen and keep team members six feet apart.

While some community members may not appreciate our decision, our employees understand our desire to reduce their exposure to a growing health crisis. The safety of our guests and team members has been our top priority since Café Yumm! opened in 1997.

We cannot predict the future but we think it is likely the definition of essential service providers will change as our nation grapples with this fast-evolving pandemic. We encourage you to stay home if you can. The sooner the spread of COVID-19 is halted, the sooner we can get back to work and serve our purpose, which is to nourish humanity and the world.

Thank you for your support and for joining us in our desire to protect our employees. Yumm! Sauce will continue to be available in grocery stores and by mail order, and we look forward to reopening in the future.

Sincerely,
