About Us
Café Yumm!® is a casual dining experience; a delicious process that takes you from pure ingredients to the savory first bite.
Founders Mark and Mary Ann Beauchamp have created a welcoming atmosphere and from the basics of rice and beans, developed a menu balancing a combination of elemental foods with a light-hearted sense of fun.
The process starts with the seed. The most fundamental form of life, the seed is a symbol of food in its basic form. Yumm! is the state of pure deliciousness contained in simple, nourishing, beautiful food.
We then apply our energy and passion. The flame transforms the basic ingredients into a satisfying, nourishing product. Yumm! is an act of passion: we love creating vital new flavors that fuel the soul.
The delicious, beautiful bowl represents the seed, transformed by flame. The bowl nourishes body, mind and soul. Yumm! is a welcoming place where flavors of many cultures meet ’round a bowl.
The final step in the process brings us full circle and represents the cyclical nature of life; life depends on the interrelationship of seed, flame and bowl.Yumm! What is it? Close your eyes, open your senses and savor the moment.
Visit one of our locations and enjoy the natural simplicity of the Yumm!.

We’ve enjoyed Yumm sauce for many years. I just wanted to ‘vote’ on the new plastic container. I much prefer the glass ones that I can re-use. The plastic ones are just harder to open and use, period. I’m sure you have good reasons for the change, but I wanted you to know my preference. The folks at Meridian and Delta Oaks both said they’ve had others complain about the plastic containers as well.
Thanks for reading.
I have been a customer of Yumm! since you opened your first deli in the basement of the 5th street market… don’t know how many “MDY”s I have consumed over the years. I used to have a container in my fridge more days than not.
I too find your new packaging troubling. My concerns mostly have to do with the scalloped shape and the plastic film over the opening. I assume the plastic film helps with shelf life but it is difficult to peel off in one piece and a portion of the already smaller volume container adheres to it. If it came off in one piece it would be easier to scrape the sauce from it. Similarly, I find it very difficult to get the full amount of Yumm! out of the scalloped sides of the container. You have already cut the volume down by a couple of ounces from the glass jars (w/0 a drop in the price as far as I can tell) and then to have to work so hard to get all of the sauce out is irritating. I have to say that I am less inclined to keep Yumm! as a staple in my kitchen.
thanks.
You guys really need to expand your franchise outside of Oregon. I moved from Eugene to Boise Idaho and I miss Cafe Yumm so much! I’m eight months pregnant now and all I want is cafe yumm. I’m ready to have my mom there purchase a few bottles of the yumm sauce and send it out here. It would be great if you had ways to order the yumm sauce off your website (unless I just haven’t found it). Anyway, love your food=) miss it=) and hope to see it out here in Boise someday! (Boise has nothing even close to Cafe Yumm, I’m sure it would be a great investment for you;)
Mark and Mary Ann:
Congratulations on your 2009 Chamber of Commerce award!!… it is well deserved. I have been a vegetarian for 35 years, and finally you have created the type of restaurant that totally satisfies my unique dietary considerations.
Every time I have a meal at your restaurant, it is a wonderful experience. A peaceful world starts with peace within, and you provide the seeds for that foundation.
Kindest Regards,
Rich Locus
I’m surprised that no one has mentioned your deceptive sales tactic, hiding with a cardboard cover the fact that the plastic container has a hollowed out center, making air the main ingredient you’re selling! At $4.35 a package, this is a complete rip-off! The sauce tastes great, as always, but shame on you for deceiving your loyal patrons! I expected more from a local company.
I’d like to chime in on the new packaging as well….I’ll preface by saying I love Cafe Yumm, I’m so excited to see them growing. I love the new cafes’, well designed and pleasant to frequent.
The new package I am not crazy about at all. I mirror the comments made above about the plastic cover and scalloped sides and loosing much desired sauce to these. But my greater concern, and the reason I have decided not to have yumm sauce in my frig any more, has to do with it’s shelf life.
It has been my family and friends consistent experience that once opened the Yumm sauce in it’s new container goes bad more quickly. The obvious darker coloration on the sides after only a few days, first concerned me…. but the stomach discomfort that we have all experienced says something is amiss. Each time we have been well within the date on the package, each time the purchase had remained chilled and never left out. I knew the shelf life of my old glass jar of Yumm sauce quite well, and this is very different.
Please re-visit your packaging…. and yes another ounce back would sure be nice. But truthfully… I know many people who no longer purchase the Yumm sauce for home use simply due to the new packaging, not even the drop in volume. I know I speak for us all when I say, we miss it so!
Sincerely,
Heather McCarley

Jen, we appreciate your feedback and understand your concerns. A lot of decision points were considered when changing to the new packaging. You can read about them here: http://www.cafeyumm.com/blog/?p=80. We always welcome your input.
We (especially my daughters) have enjoyed Cafe Yumm for many years. Now that my daughters attend South Eugene, they are able to walk to Cafe Yumm for lunch. However, my daughters and their friends have mentioned several instances of rudeness on the part of the employees at that location. It is disappointing to us as we do enjoy supporting local businesses. I can only think that you would rather not have the high school lunch business.
Erika,
Thanks for your comment. We love having students visit our 18th and Willamette restaurant. The Café Yumm! founder, Mary Ann, is always delighted when she sees the high school students at Café Yumm!. It means the younger generation is learning about and embracing the idea of healthy foods and a healthy
life style. We’ll look into this right away and discuss this with our David Hixson, our Eugene General Manager, and the Meridian managers. As always, we appreciate your help and feedback.
I lived in Florence, Oregon for a little over two years and would drive to Eugene for errands and I always had to make a pit stop for a Yumm Bowl – especially when I was pregnant. (-: ( Baby needed some yumm so I would purchase the sauce to have at home. ) We now live in *cough* Southern California and I dearly miss Cafe Yumm. It will definitely be a stop on our next visit to Oregon. Are you planning to make your Yumm Sauce available for online purchase?
THANK YOU!!!! for offering glass jars again; am so glad to see that sometimes our voices ARE heard!!!!

My Neice came to visit us and she brought her Yum Sauce along on their vacation in the cooler. She let me try it and gave me some. I just made a bowl of white beans, red onion. Shredded fat free cheese, guacamole, shredded romaine with 2 tablespoons of this wonderful sauce! I’m trying to figure out how it’s made!
Please open up a store in Visalia, CA. I love it!
